When you have room accessories that need updating, it's tempting to toss them, or give them away and buy new ones. Another option is to update them with paint. This video shows how to update a lamp using chalk paint.
Our emphasis here is more on creative pursuits of all kinds than it is on caravans, or travel trailers, but some folks combine them both. Creatively painted vintage trailers (they're called "caravans" in the UK), have become popular recently and the creativity is eye-popping.

Are you are homeowner who wishes that your home was a little bit different, more exciting, or more attractive? Although a large number of homeowners are more than happy with their home, there are others who want more. If you are one of those homeowners, it may be time for a change. Despite what you may believe, that change doesn't have to involve buying a new home, it can involve a simple remodeling project, such as a bathroom remodeling project.
When it comes to bathroom remodeling, many homeowners wonder whether or not it is a good idea. If that's you, take the time to familiarize yourself with some of the most common signs that your bathroom could use a remodeling. If any of the signs, which will be mentioned below, sound familiar then it may be time that you start thinking about remodeling your bathroom.
One of the most obvious signs that you should remodel your bathroom was mentioned above. That sign is unhappiness. Whether you are unhappy with the overall appearance of your home or just the bathroom, a bathroom remodeling project may be able to offer you assistance. If you do make the decision to remodel your bathroom, you will find that you have a number of different options.
You could easily remodel a small portion of your bathroom, such as your bathroom toilet or sink, but you could also change everything around. In fact, the choices that you will have are just one of the many benefits to remodeling your bathroom; you have the complete freedom to do whatever you want.
In addition to just not liking the way that your bathroom looks, there is also a chance that it may be unsafe or in poor condition. Whether you have developed a mold problem or if your bathroom is falling apart, you may not only want to think about remodeling your bathroom, but you may actually need to. Since the bathroom is often considered one of the most used rooms in a home, there is a good chance that you, as well as anyone else who lives in your home, will use it multiple times a day. Loose bathroom floor tiles, mold, and other bathroom problems can not only look unattractive, but they can also be dangerous. Therefore, if your bathroom can be considered unsafe, you may want to think about having your bathroom remodeled.
Another sign that you may want to think about remodeling your bathroom is if you are looking to sell your home. In almost all cases, bathroom remodeling projects help to increase the overall value of a home, especially if the bathroom was previously in poor condition. Although you are not required to remodel your bathroom before you sell it, it may be a good idea. For more information on whether or not a bathroom remodeling project can increase the profits that you will see when selling your home, you may want to speak to a real estate agent. You will find that in some cases it is worth to remodel your bathroom before selling, but others times it isn't.
The above mentioned bathroom remodeling signs are just a few of the many that exist. In all honestly, it doesn't really matter whether you need to remodel your bathroom or not, all that matters is if you want to. If you want to remodel your bathroom, go right ahead; there are a fairly large number of benefits to doing so.
With Mother’s Day coming up this Sunday, many people are scurrying around to get a beautiful card for their mother and a nice gift. And while it’s the thought that counts, it’s too bad so many people will miss the mark with the gift they choose for their mother this year. There are usually three reasons people choose the wrong Mother’s Day gift (sometimes they do this year after year). Here they are:
#1 They choose a gift they “think” their mother will want.
All moms want flowers or candy for Mother’s Day, right? Well, not really. Yet this is what many people think since candy and flowers are typical Mother’s Day gifts. But consider your mother’s interests and tastes when choosing her gift this year. Maybe she is trying to stop eating sweets, or at least limit them right now, and a big box of chocolates will be hard to resist. Or, perhaps she’d rather have a potted plant she can keep for years rather than some beautiful cut flowers that will quickly fade and have to be thrown out. OR – the reverse could be true. Maybe she doesn’t want a potted plant she will have to care for. The point is, don’t simply give your mother something you “think” she will want.
#2 They choose a gift they “want” their mother to want.
I (Suzanne) have two brothers and I notice one of my brothers doing this all the time. He buys my mother something he wants her to have, not necessarily something she wants. Then, to make matters worse, he tells her, “Don’t get rid of this. I want you to have it.” And since the gifts he gives her are usually pretty lavish (a.k.a. expensive), she doesn’t dare give his gifts away or sell them, even though many times he gives her something huge (that takes up way too much room in her home) or something she never uses (a huge juicer with many parts that would have to be cleaned each time the juicer was used comes to mind – she’s never used it).
#3 They don’t take the time to find out what their mother really wants.
The reason people tend to give their mother gifts they think she should want or gifts they want her to want is usually because they don’t take the time to find out what their mother really wants. And sometimes what a mother really wants isn’t expensive or lavish, so children think a small, inexpensive gift isn’t good enough to give their mom, so they insist on spending more money on something she doesn’t really want. Go figure…
Before you choose a gift for your mother this Mother’s Day, find out what she really wants. Let go of any notions of what you think she should want. Also, try to let go of the desire to give your mother something you want her to want.
If you live in an apartment or condo and don't have a lot of outdoor space, you can still create a garden this summer. Simply try container gardening. But think outside the "pot" when it comes to containers.

If sitting outside in your yard, or on your patio, is not something you do often in summer because of mosquitoes, then here’s a gardening tip to try now – before summer gets started. Plant some lemon grass in your flowerbeds (if you have a yard) or in big pots if you only have a patio, balcony, or small terrace.
You’ll want to purchase lemon grass that is already at least a foot tall because it takes longer (of course), and is a bit trickier, to grow from seed. Luckily, most garden centers and nurseries sell lemon grass that is ready for re-potting in your garden or into larger pots.
I bought this lemon grass in two small pots a couple of weeks ago and re-potted it in these bigger pots a few days later. I used Miracle-Gro Garden Soil for Flowers & Vegetables and some cedar mulch. The mulch keeps weeds from growing in the pot and also helps the soil retain moisture since the summer days here tend to be really hot and sunny.
The grass in both pots has already grown several inches taller and seems to be expanding to fill the pots as well. I want the lemon grass to get really tall this summer – for added privacy on my patio – so I’m going to re-pot one of the plants in this larger pot (above) and see how much faster it grows than the grass I leave in the smaller pot. I’ll continue to take photos to show you the results.
I love sitting on the patio in the early morning and evening (the only time that isn’t too hot to sit outside here in summer), but there tends to be mosquitoes, and I’d rather not spray the patio with bug spray, so this lemon grass should be a much nicer alternative.
Have you tried lemon grass as a way to repel mosquitoes? If so, leave a comment and let me know how well it worked.
Years ago, one May Day when my sons were still children, we were in the house doing something when we heard a knock at the front door. My younger son went to see who it was. When he opened the door, no one was there, but what a nice surprise was there - a paper May day flower cone filled with beautiful wildflowers. There was no note with the cone, so we didn't know who left it until weeks later a good friend of mine let it slip that she and her young daughters had made cones for all their best friends for May Day. What a nice tradition.
Watch this short video and learn how to make your own paper cones to use for May Day flower cones today.
Even dandelions look sweet in these paper cones, so don't think you need to go out and buy flowers for this project.
