Each of us makes hundreds, if not thousands, of decisions every single day. Everything from when to get out of bed in the morning to when to go to bed at night requires a decision. So it's easy to understand that our actions require decisions. But not quite so easy to understand that our feelings and emotions require decisions, too. But they do. Many times, our emotions and feelings are simply reactions. But we can learn to direct our feelings and emotions, just as we do our actions, by taking the time to DECIDE how we will feel and react to things.
Today, when you notice you are simply reacting to something rather than consciously choosing or deciding how you feel about it, stop and change your reaction if it isn't a reaction that will help you reach your goals. For example, if you didn't manage to complete everything on your to-do list yesterday, and you feel depressed about it, stop and change that reaction or way of thinking. Instead, celebrate all the things you DID manage to accomplish. You'll probably be surprised at how good you suddenly start to feel!
Also, before you do anything else today, DECIDE to have a wonderful day, no matter what you have planned. Even if a dental appointment is on your schedule, decide to make this a pleasant event. Remember, it isn't so much what happens to us in life that matters. It's how we deal with what happens, our attitude about it all, that really matters. Take charge of your life today and DECIDE what you want to think, feel, and do.
